I have always said that I was going to blog, though honestly I don't think my life is all that exciting. So what would I write about on a somewhat regular basis? Okay - well now is my chance!! As I am sure you know by now (mainly because you have probaby gotten e-mails asking for $$), I am running the LaSalle Bank Chicago Maraton in October.
I have always said that running a marathon was something that I have wanted to do. Year after year, I start off training and for whatever reason something happens and my training falls by the wayside and another year goes by without accomplishing my goal. So this year when my friend Denise (see pic above) mentioned doing the AIDS Foundation Marathon Training program, I was all about it. I had known friends that had trained through this program in the past and raved about it. But lets face it - I'm not one to do much on my own. Heck, I won't walk into a bar alone if I don't know my friend are already there.
So we attended an informational meeting and I was ready to go. The AIDS Foundation is an amazing organization that provides support to those who are living with this horrible disease. So through this training program I get to accomplish a life-long goal of running a marathon AND I get to help raise money for an organization I believe in. It seemed like a win-win to me. So here I am.
Well, the ultimate goal of 26.2 miles seems almost crazy. I mean - that is 4 hours of running! Thats running halfway home to Cary! I mean yikes! But people do it all the time. Heck, Oprah ran a marathon. If she can do it -- I can do it! So I am dedicated to train. I'm dedicated to get in better shape. I am dedicated to fulfill a long-term goal. I am dedicated to fundraishing for an amazing cause.
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Inspirational sign on a runner's office wall
